Luis Martin

Madrid born, graduated at the Real Conservatory of Madrid and L’ École de Danse Classique Princesse Grace de Monte Carlo with Marika Besobrasova. In 1987 joined the Spanish National Ballet under Maya Plisetskaya and Ray Barra and danced as a soloist in majority of classical ballets such as Sleeping Beauty, Theme and Variations, Serenade, La fille mal Gardee.

In 1991, upon the arrival of Nacho Duato, promoted to a principal dancer of the renewed Compañia Nacional de Danza. His repertoire includes ballet such as Jardi tancat, Arenal, Synaphai, Duende, Remansos, Rassamblement, Without Words.

Worked with Duato on his creations of Romeo and Juliet, Cautiva, Por Vos Muero, Mediteranea, Txalaparta, Ofrenda de sombras, White Darkness, Self, Tabulae, Multiplicidad de formas y silencio, Arcangelo, Ecos, Cero sobre Cero and others.

Worked with international choreographers such as Ohad Naharin, Nicolo Fonte, Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Jacopo Godani, William Forsythe, Orjan Anderson in choreographies such as Perpetuum, Kyr, Petit Mort, No more play, Psalm Symphony, Quartet nº 8, Enemy, Stepping stones, In the Middle.

Mentor of many young dancers, member of the jury at International Ballet Competitions in Spain, a ballet master with the CND and a free-lance guest choreographer with his award-winning choreography Por ti.
As a guest dancer at many international ballet galas, invited by Alicia Alonso to the 50th Anniversary Gala of Ballet de Cuba.

Upon retiring from his dance career, he became a director of the production department at the Compañía Nacional de Danza, Madrid, Spain and their tour manager.

Graduated in Business and Management at the ESERP, Madrid and with a Master Degree in International Cultural Management at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, he has become a guest professor at the Madrid University and their Master Programmes.

Mentor and presiding board of the EmprendeEscena, a cultural organization dedicated to promotion and development of performing arts in Madrid.
